Since I've Been Gone

Well folks....it's been a while since I've posted anything. I was hard at work on my book and am thrilled to say that I have the meat and potatoes of the book done! Whew! It was a labor of love for sure. I am currently in the editing stages and am working up the courage to write a query letter and submit it to those big bad publishers.

On another note, stay tuned for a pretty exciting announcement regarding my future writing endeavors! I'll be seeing you a whole lot more.

Music: A necessity or a hinderance?

So lets talk about music. Do you have a "soundtrack" to your writing or do you prefer the quiet?

I personally need the music. I have a writing playlist if you will. Some of the bands on my playlist are Disturbed, Godsmack, Linkin Park, Metallica, Muse and Shinedown. Depending on which part of my book I am working on, I listen to certain bands to set the tone of my writing. The 'heavier' and 'darker' parts of my book are written to Disturbed and Godsmack. Both David Draiman and Sully Erna have dark, raw voices which work well with the subject. I tend to listen to Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz and Muse for the lighter and  romantic moments in the book.

I really think that the music enhances my writing and helps to set the mood of the scenes I'm writing at the time. But hey, that's just me...

Distractions

Okay so lets talk about distractions. I try to write a bit each day but let's face it, sometimes life gets in the way. What kind of distractions keep you from writing?

I'll tell you what distracts me:

1. My full-time job. Until this writing thing pays off, I have to work to keep the electricity and internet on so I can write oh and do research... :-)
2. Kids. Even though I only have one at home now, he's still a distraction. Come to think of it, the two that aren't here are distractions too. :-P
3. Television. I love to watch 'my shows'. Turns out I watch quite a bit of TV. I try to stick to shows that inspire me with their writing, but I watch Hawaii Five-O just for the eye candy. (Hello Alex O'Loughlin)
4. Sports. I am a huge sports fan. I love hockey and football and I have to say, I have the Jets/Patriots game on as I'm typing this. :-D
